A Little Summer on a Dreary Winter Day

Calgary experienced a cool, snowy day today. It is days like today that make a heart long for the sweet smells of spring. I chose to post the following photos that I took during our growing season to warm those hearts that are currently surrounded by the icy clutches of snow.

Night Photo's in Canmore

These photographs were taken in Canmore Alberta last weekend. The lighting makes them quite spectacular. Sometimes, when photographing, you capture images and scenes most unexpected. This was one of the moments.

Grotto Canyon, Alberta

I took these photos while at Grotto Canyon last weekend. I purchased my crampons yesterday and am planning another trip out this weekend. I plan to go as far as the valley this time, which I hear is absolutely stunning. I should have no problems now that I won't be wasting my energy trying to balance myself on the ice.

Frozen in Time - Grotto Canyon

After an awesome weekend I spent Sunday hiking at Grotto Canyon located near Canmore Alberta in the Rocky Mountains. Because you are hiking on a riverbed, the hike is quite slippery and my new hiking boots provided little traction. The situation was made worse because of the freezing rain that they had in the area earlier in the day.

There is a collection of pictographs located near the falls which I did not have the experience to see, simply because of the icy conditions but I do intend to go back soon after I purchase crampons for that extra traction. It was hilarious to see the dog out in these icy conditions and she was sure to get a workout.
