Woodpecker

On a recent trip to what is called the Weaselhead in Calgary I was fortunate to be able to photograph this Downy Woodpecker. Adult Downy Woodpeckers are the smallest of North Americas woodpeckers. They forage on trees, picking the bark surface in the summer and digging deeper in the winter. They mainly eat insects, seeds and berries. In the winter, it is not uncommon to see them in suburban backyards .
