Co-existence of Water and Ice..in January?

During a recent trip to the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada I hiked the Grassi Lakes Trail, classified as an easy hike with a gradual elevation gain on a heavily used and well-packed trail. Upon reaching the top, I was greeted with sights of a waterfall, several lakes, and excellent opportunities for the rock-climbing enthusiast. What amazed me tremendously was the amount of water still not touched by the frost of winter. I took several photographs of this with my DSLR, those of which I share in this post. You may notice a slight blur on the right side in these photographs. I did not notice that my camera lens was sweating.
